Oahu - Hawaii Visited by Angela Schrenk In September of 2007
Hello all - just got back from Oahu -
While there I did a site inspection at the Regency at Beachwalk the New OR Condo - it is superb! Right behind the OR Reef and Halekulani (so maybe a block to beach) and lots of shops/dining nearby. I got to see a 2 bedroom unit which was beautiful - wood floors, huge plasma TVs in bedrooms and Living room - large balcony on master bedroom and living room and big open kitchen with all utensils, full size stainless fridge, dishwasher, stove top, etc. Great for a small family! The 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom are the exact same (both have 1 large extra modern looking bathroom) except one more bedroom is in the 2 bedroom. I would certainly recommend it!!! Very trendy and cool.
We stayed at the Ohana East on Kuhio Ave - very central Waikiki local - we had a city view room which I could see ocean to the right thru the towers of the Hyatt, and Diamond Head through buildings ahead and the city below from our 16th floor lanai. Large room, had 2 big closets (small bathroom just shower), very clean, nicely furnished, mini-fridge, safe, table & chairs, chaise, desk, dressing area etc. 2 blocks to the beach (Kuhio is 1 block behind Kalakaua and its about 1 block to the International Marketplace and about 3 -4 blocks the "Beachwalk"(which is not quite completed - but close).
Also stayed at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.... But a spectacular view over the yacht harbor and to the ocean from the room (no lanais here but the windows open so you can lean out if you feel the need). Very large bathroom with separate large tub & sep. shower and separate commode and large vanity area. Big closet with robes and slippers and mini fridge too (parking here was cheaper by $3 per day than the Ohana at just $16/day). They had a shuttle that made 3 stops through Waikiki (one being at the main beach where the statue of Duke is (by the Moana Surfrider,& OR Waikiki etc.)
The Beachwalk is very upscale dining and shopping. Lot’s of big names like you find in Hollywood.
Hanauma Bay Snorkeling was absolutely fantastic. About $15 will get you in and rent you snorkel equip for the whole day with $1 parking (they have food for sale at the top before you enter the actual park/bay if you want to eat there you can but food at the top and take it down with you)! Dole plantation and Sea Life Park were also great. We got lots of history also at Hawaii's Plantation Village if anyone's never been there its worth a stop. Didn’t care for Polynesian Cultural Center. - too commercial and not worth the $. The Kings Jubilee on Friday night (A Polynesian show & fireworks $12 each includes a drink/cocktail) was a great show worth the visit. Went to the famous Matsumoto's Shave Ice on the North shore and had a Sno Cone original Hawaii Style (with ice cream in the bottom!) which was worth the trip and the scenery up there. Had no trouble getting in and out of Pearl Harbor on our own (its free you know - free parking too) go there about 8:30 and were done and gone in less than 2 hrs. |
